Health technology export products increased by 9.7% from the previous year to 2.11 billion euros. Imports increased by 8.0% to one billion, so the balance of trade surplus in the sector exceeded the milestone of one billion euro for the first time.
In 2016, growth was mainly due to the export of medical devices and this is 71% of the total exports of health technologies. Exports to the US increased by 23%, to 841 million euros, representing 40% of total exports. China was the second largest destination of exports, reaching share of 8%.
